Did you know that the FDA does not require tests or safety data for new cosmetics?

Many ingredients found in everything from toothpaste to moisturizers (such as formaldehyde, phthalates, And parabens) can have toxic effects on the human body. "several of these chemicals have been linked to cancer, impaired reproductive ability and compromised neurodevelopment in children." (Scientific American, 2017)

I slowly started to switch over to natural products 5 years ago, and searching for natural substitutes has turned into a sort-of hobby for me. With some natural products, it is an easy switch because the natural stuff works even better than the "toxic" brands I used to use. With other products, it is a balance between effectiveness and all-natural-ness.

If you are new to natural products, here is a good overview as to why it is worthwhile to start using natural products. However, don't go overboard with buying into the "natural" trend; keep in mind that both natural and synthetic ingredients can irritate you, so you really need to find what works for you. There is not one widely-distributed brand that has non-toxic products across the board, so you need to review each product and scent variation individually.

I am by no means an expert and the information on this site is a result of Googling, researching, reading blogs, Environmental Working Group lists, and my own opinions. As an Amazon Associate, I earn a small percentage from qualifying purchases. However, all opinions are my own and I use all of the products I recommend. I provide online shopping links as a quick reference, but please buy products from physical stores when you can to avoid packaging waste. I am always looking to learn more, so please pass along any insights you come across!
